Offley & Stopsley Colts CC 147-4 Vs Marsh Farm Yth 77 all out - 1st Aug
OSCC Won by 70 runs
OSCC Colts impressed in a comprehensive defeat of an inexperienced Marsh Farm Yth team on a balmy sunny evening at the OSCC ground.
Skipper Mark Ward won the toss and decided to bat. A typically ruthless decision from the now hardened captain bearing in mind the obvious inexperience of the opposition.
Mark and Gary Chamberlain opened the batting. Gary got off to a typically robust start right from the off and flayed the bowling all around, hitting 3 4's and a 6 on his way to a quick 25 before he retired. Jamie Dyer came in and really bullied the bowling hitting another 25 with five 4's and a few singles in only 3 overs. Meanwhile Mark Ward played straight and careful and used the match to continue his reputation for being the most technically correct batsmen we have on his way to 10 before becoming the first victim of the Marsh ~Farm bowlers with the score on 103. It has to be said that 40% of this total were extra's as the opposition bowlers struggled with the reality of bowling in a match for the first time.
The pace of scoring slowed slightly with the introduction of Jack Willis and Lewis Crosby. Indeed Lewis only lasted only 3 balls before the impressive Barnes clean bowled him. Charlie Page was the next to go for a duck as he played across the line to Barnes and then the youngest player in the side William Rodgers came to the crease determined to impress. He played straight and correct with good technique until the banter on the boundary got to him, playing a wild shot he was bowled for a duck - he'll learn!
Daniel Caddam and Adam Ward didn't really have time to make an impression before the innings was closed on 147 after 20 overs.
Marsh Farm got off to a terrible start when Adam Ward got the opener - Jayesh Afridi - LBW with only his third ball. The brothers Afridi came and went for a duck each when Charlie Page and William Rodgers clean bowled them. J Barnes had the honour of scoring the first run for the opposition when the score was 3-4 before running himself out. To be fair it was a great piece of fielding fromm Charlie Page to get him out. Next to go was D Perry for 5 when Harry Lovell held on to a catch from his own bowling. He then clean bowled Emma Dalgarno and got his hatrick when bowling D Patel.
Ruben Morrison and Randino then resisted the bowling for a while while putting on a stand of 21 before Randino fell to Lovell (his fourth wicket in two overs).
At this point it was decided to allow some extra batsmen a go, OSCC took care of these in style, with Simon Lalland and Gary Chamberlain picking up the closing wickets.
All in all a fairly comfortable workout for the boys before some hopefully stiffer tasks ahead.
