Offley & Stopsley Colts CC 112-5 Vs Ickleford under 13's 80 all out - 22nd July
OSCC Won by 32 runs
The colts team played host to Ickleford under 13's on Sunday morning (22/7) in a return fixture after the previous weeks thriller.
Skipper Mark Ward lost the toss and was put into bat. He decidedc to open up with Gary Chamberlain. In a watchful if slightly slow start the two put on 60 odd for the first wicket before Mark Ward retired on 23 in order to give his teammates an oppurtunity to bat after 10 overs. Jamie Dyer came in and scored a quick fire 22 runs (scoring 5 boundary 4's) while Gary Chamberlain got into his stride and started to score more freely.
When Jamie was run out with the score on 81 a collaps came, Conor Gargan played the wrong shot to a straight one, Charlie Page was clean bolwed going for the big one in the 2nd last over. Lewis Page and Adam Ward faced the last 8 balss and put on an extra 12 to bring the score to an admirable 112-5.
Adam Ward opened the bowling with discipline, keeping a good line and length he frustrated the opening batsmen who had trouble scoring. The breakthrough came from the other end where Jamie Dyer immediatley got into his stride taking two wickets in his first over, both clean bowled. Adam Ward then got his deserved breakthrough when an attempted drive was edged high to 1st slip, where his elder brother Mark took the catch.
Mark Ward then took over, removing Woodhead for a duck and then the dangerous Norrington hit a high one to Dyer who held it with no bothers. Lewis Page bowled a single over and took a single wicket before a mis-understanding in the field between him and Mark Ward caused a collision in which Lewis took the ball in the face. Just a bit of bruising, but a sharp reminder of how important calling is in the field.
The youngest player in the team William Rogers bowled a nice tight 3 overs with no luck, while Charlie Page took a wicket at the death. The final throes of this enjoyable match saw a comical exchange of mis-fields, nearly run-outs, collisions in the field all of the same ball, scoring four runs.
