Offley & Stopsley CC 197-2 Vs Holwell ; 7th June
Match Abandoned due to Rain
Torrential rain thwarted Offley’s victory bid against Holwell. Steve Bexfield hammered an unbeaten 84 and looked well on course for a century after guiding Offley into a strong position before the weather intervened and forced the teams to settle for two points apiece.
Bexfield and Darren Lunney opened the batting and conclusively proved they are not an ideal opening partnership by allowing Hopkinson to bowl his eight overs off the reel for the cost of just four runs. To their credit the pair took runs at the other end and had put on 79 when Lunney ran himself out attempting a third run.
Mo Chaudry weighed in with a blistering 42 as he hammered the bowling to all parts, smiting two big sixes, before he was sent back by Bexfield and was run out, a verdict that would have been laughed out of court by the third umpire and anyone who had actually been paying attention on the grounds that the round red thing wasn’t really close to the stumps when the bails came off. Unfortunately the lack of conclusive evidence didn’t prevent the umpiring equivalent to Inspector Clouseau from sending Chaudry on his way.
Dhrupal Patel played some extravagant strokes, including one outrageous backhanded scoop, before Bexfield launched a massive blow over midwicket which acted as the cue for the heavens to open and curtail proceedings.
