Offley & Stopsley II's, 139-9 Vs Preston III’s
137 all out ; 31st May
OSCC II’s Won by 1 Wkt
Offley & Stopsley II’s recorded their first win
of the season in a thrilling finish over a stunned Preston third team.
Skipper Colin Keeley lost the toss and was asked
to field first on boiling summers afternoon, since he only had 9 players to
start the game it looked a daunting ask. However the late arrivals were on hand
soon into the game and OSCC stuck about their task with Gary Chamberlain and
Keeley opening the bowling.
Chamberlain made the breakthrough early on when
he clean bowled Saunders and quickly followed this with another set of stumps
when the luckless Wright got the only ball of the day that kept low on an
otherwise fair wicket. Things were going smoothly with Keeley bowlinga miserly
spell at the other end, when Chamberlain produced a snorter to take Moorcroft’s
bails off, the score was 21-3.
After Chamberlain was taken out of the attack
with an injury Colin Williams and Adam Ward took on the batsmen to no avail and
despite a solid display in the field some loose bowling from Williams prompted
the early introduction of Marc Ward who found success in his third over, finding
the edge of Pirton’s bat with Damian Sale taking the regulation catch.
This brought Dalae to the crease and Preston’s
major partnership of the day, together with the opener Ian Murrel they put on 41
valuable runs as the bowling started to toil in the heat. Cliff Large was
brought into the attack and turned the game in OSCC’s favour once again when a
top edge found Gary Law at deep square leg. With T Murrell and Dalae soon
following it looked like the target could be kept to a very tempting 110 or so.
Only the late hitting of the tail brought the total to 137 all out in the final
over.
